    Ash

Like Montserrat, destroyed and covered in ash
Her heart was devoured, consumed and buried
Then slowly came revival after that clash
Sadness and death were painfully miscarried

Clear sunny blue skies now filled life every day
Grateful for peace of mind and another chance
promised herself never again to betray
Closed door to her past without another glance

    Accepting life's unpredictability
Is a road not well nor easily traveled
It belies inner strength and humility
scarred somewhat but not completely unraveled

Out of heaps of ash comes renewal of life
Human growth can come from life's trials and strife

My heart leapt with joy to see your picture in the queue again AtL! YOU HAVE BEEN MISSED! And this poem - timely for me indeed (given liturgical seasons) but with a message so strong and encouraging for anyone, anytime - all in a beautifully formed sonnet. So ready to receive your wonderful sonnets (or any form) again to learn and grow and just soak in the beauty of who you are! Wish I could give multiple likes!

In true Alexandran style, she brings three rhyming quatrains, and, with a returning flourish, crowns them a sonnet! Life's turns reflected upon, lessons distilled, and resolve recovered - your distinctive voice is here again, and we are blessed thereby. I salute and bow, Alexandra.

Hello AlexandratheLate, A most lovely sonnet, loaded to the brim with courage, determination and beautiful poetry. You compose well, the sonnet, a difficult form yet special, precious even, as is this poem. Regards, Tony.

Beautiful sonnet with an ending I would like to have printed on my wall:
Out of heaps of ash comes renewal of life
Human growth can come from life's trials and strife

            You crossed my mind lately.

We cannot erase the past, its triumphs and scars, but, perhaps we can learn and grow from it.

            So true.

            Well done, poet.
