I’ve been losing sleep
Playing the same scene,
over and over
In my restless mind.

Dreamless sleep—
images of what I wish to keep
You.
The comfort in the dark,
the little spark,
in my lonely heart

Come closer
and kindle the little flame
that is about to be
swallowed by the darkness
I create.

You’re my little toy soldier,
An angel watching over me.
Making sure my soul doesn’t grow any older—
Because we’re still the same kids
Playing by the sea
Under that old ash tree.
