  • Confessions of a Chestnut-Crowned Babbler from the Australian Outback

I do not sing like other birds
    I talk

I am a highly talented wordsmith
    With feathers

    I cobble together words for
    Kith and kin

    I manipulate phonemes with
    Eerie precision

I invent words to warn of danger
    In my social group

    I love dust-bathing and preening
    And crowding together

At night in our communal roosting
    Nest in an Acacia tree

    Tanner!!

To do this with the economy of diction you employ!

    Excellent.

DWAYNE, Occasionally I try to digress from my usual themes. A compliment from you with respect to "economy of diction" is most treasured. You are a true master of leanness. No excess baggage in any of your writings.
