    Dear God Almighty
    Elizabeth Pridgen
He was driving the car in the middle of the night.
Thinking about his dad while he kept his eyes on the road.
It pulled away the sweetness overflowing from his life.
But when those headlights came closer to him, everything came to a close.

After hearing the news his girlfriend cried,
    “Dear God almighty.”
Because she wished her love had never died.
    “This was so untimely.
Why did this happen? I was so happy.
Is this the way it has to be
    Dear God almighty?”

She kept the diamond ring found in the car with her man.
It reminded her of his blue eyes and the time she kissed him for the first time.
But she knew those days were gone and that he was in the holy land.
She just couldn’t accept it now since it was just so out of line.

She prayed again, “Dear God almighty.
I need you to hold me tightly
So I can move on with my life.
Even though it’s hard when this is cutting me like a knife.
I’m so sorry I can’t be strong right now.
I just need to time to heal somehow.
    Dear God almighty.”

    She wore the ring,
As she heard the choir sing
His favorite song, dear God almighty.

Thank you! It's not a true story, it's just something that's been on my mind lately!
