  • Girl On A Cloud

    There once was a girl
    On a cloud
    Chained to the earth
    Not allowed
    To float true and free
    The way one should be
    When sitting
    On a white, fluffy cloud

    She could only yearn
    To fly true and free
    The way she was meant
    To be
    The birds, the sweet bells
    The way the sky swells
    Always the sky called
    To her
    And her cloud

    In the crowd
    She bowed
    Head down
    Hiding her frown
For as she looked at her feet
    She dreamed of passing defeat
    And flying
    On her white, fluffy cloud

    One day she decided
    This misery is for naught
    She broke her chains
    Despite the pain
    And on her cloud
    She flew
    So true

    She flew to heaven
    For she had died
    Trying to be free
    Of her burden
    Trying to fly

    There was a girl
    On a cloud
    Chained to the earth
    Not allowed
    To float true and free
    So she died to be
    Free

Life on this earth consists of all sorts of chains, doesn't it? Interesting word play NCPoems - I ponder how casually I've heard the words 'I'd die for __fill in the blank__'. It's an expression almost commonplace. Yet here, there is a seriousness about this poem which belies that casual interpretation.
