  • Christmas Reflection 2015

I'd forgotten I wrote this - but came across it just now. It still rings true for me. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa - or whatever you celebrate or don't. I'd just like more cheer in the world and am wishing it for you!

    Christmas Reflection 2015
In a world as big as our world – with so many souls to save
There are some who use most kindly all the gifts that Jesus gave
There are others who deny Him – while some never know His name
Yet He loves us all as children in our need for love – the same

We can walk a path too narrow – we can wander far in sin
When the knock is heard for shelter – do we welcome strangers in?
Will the fear of danger sway us – will it stay our need to give?
Will it bring out all we’re made for – or corrupt the way we live?

In a season made for laughter – with a bright and shining star
There are some who see most clearly how He makes us what we are
There are others who refuse Him – while some live without His joy
Yet He loves us all as children – every girl and every boy

We can walk where safety holds us – we can miss the mark so true
When a challenge is beyond us – will the easy answer do?
Will our comfort be more precious – will it hold us back or no?
Will the Truth compel our passion – or amend the way we go?

In a life of measured moments – for a length we do not know
There are some who spend each treasure on the needs His body shows
There are others who rebuke Him – while some never hear of Grace
Yet He is, in truth, our Savior – and He longs to give embrace

We can walk midst tinseled trappings – we can buy the market dross
Or give chance to Holy Mercy as He modeled on the cross
When our Savior finds us waiting – when we live His life sincere
I believe His grace sufficient – to alleviate all fear

In remembered Incarnation – filled with joy and sorrow shared
We can be a Holy presence – we can live as sinners spared
We return to Him His mercy – showing Joy despite our pain
He will find us in our loving – may we walk His way again

Very nice reflection of your faith, RLW! Your poem's construction helps you express it very well, too! Merry Christmas to you!

Full of great thoughts and wise words. I wonder if you started this now how you would write it? It seems very large and cumbersome just splitting it into verses would give it a bit more time to breathe.and strengthen its impact. Your wish for extra cheer for others is one I am glad you shared.

Thank you Jon. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Actually, it was in verses, and for some reason when I copied and pasted, that formatting was lost. I didn't think it an issue at the time, but now that you've mentioned it, I can go back and try to make that change. Thank you!

Lovely expression of a universal need. Your verse embraces Christianity yet I believe your message is applicable to all belief systems.

Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us. It's always a joy

Thank YOU rhymetime - I'm so glad that you could read a wider application for this! It makes me happy to think so.

Masterfully rhymed, would work a treat presented calligraphically, or even inlaid in gold letters on a fine wood panel in a church setting. It's a very accessible verse that would encourage many believers, young and old, methinks.

That's a beautiful idea Grant. I don't do calligraphy, but I have a sister who does and perhaps I can send it to her to see what she can do with it. Thank you for the look and excellent idea!
