  • Hewers of Men (companion to Beastly Burden)

    The mighty warrior raged:
    They killed my brothers,
    they torched my home,
    and you would have us
    raise olive branches,
    when we should
    raze their homes,
    and baptize them in blood?
Let them use their flags to
    swaddle their dead,
    as we have buried ours!

    The king
drained his cup of the vintage,
and left the dregs to mingle
    with his errant thoughts,
    before, he replied:
    If homicidal rage,
    were that witchcraft
    which would
    resurrect the beloved,
    Perhaps,
    I would not cease
    to pile kindling
    for the pyre.
    But, even now,
    we've been reduced
    to mere hewers of men.
    Even now,
    we remain
    unworthy of the reunion.
    No.
    They will have their peace,
    and perhaps, in time,
    I will have mine.

Another poignant writing Dwayne. If only we could have peace.

To reconcile w/out resort to violence shows incredible humility. Excellent write!

Ah, you have a definite flair for the epic, Dwayne. I feel that you could compose a whole narrative suite of this august stature.

I do not know where this is leading but I surely will follow it.

Fine write, Dwayne. There are those who would swiftly retaliate against violence or oppression, and there are those who would seek to reconcile with the violent and the oppressive. But patience is not infinite.
