    Keep Your Horns to Yourself

    those cotton-picking points of pride
    paraded constant as charms
have gored heart from within and out
    leaving well stung dignity
    pock-marked brutal

    perhaps retort-laden lack of
patience signifies no ill wind of nagging,
neighing bag of bones, but rather
holes left empty of desire, searching
    path to undo goat-rope’s tangle

    saddle-sore posturing holds no ribboned
    reward, rodeo announcer called shots
    long before wild bronco rattled gate;
no comic relief in sight or sound,
clowns have retired for the night

Spectacular, RLW, and I think you can see this is your current voice of choice!

Thank you MHenry. I like that 'current voice of choice'. It means I can and probably will grow and change as I learn more about the craft - or as I gain wisdom with age (I really hope that happens). I appreciate your constant support!

This is brilliant, Rhymist. So musical, and power packed. Devices galore! Love it!

Thank you Grant. It's nice to hear that others enjoy the words I manage to string together! I was a bit puzzled by where this piece was taking me. I'd had the first stanza a few days and decided to give it another look tonight.

You really spread your wings and fly RLW. Wonderful format - I think you just might enjoy this ALMOST as much as rhyming. :-)

Thanks AG. I was thinking much the same thing myself last night! Lol! In fact, now I think I need to try to rhyme again to see if I remember how to do it!

Thank you LG! It's good to be versatile I guess - that's my next slope to tackle!
