If
by wielding an olive branch,
I find myself imperilled,
when
a brandished sword
would,
mine enemies,
decimate,
then, so be it.
For death
is a certainty
I may,
at most,
delay,
if neither folly
nor misfortune,
hastens.
Yet,
I merely seek
to mine the conscience
for troves of humanity,
and perhaps,
expose
the suicidal nature
of hatred.
And if,
in the promulgation
of compassion,
my lips lay waste
to irrationality,
or bigotry,
then,
let me be the first
to rejoice
in the transformational triumph
of reason;
and bless
the common features
of an erstwhile foe.
However,
I will not,
by conflicting ideal
or divergent notion,
seek to eradicate
those,
whose conduct,
spurs my outrage.
Rather,
let my voice
be principled,
or let it be silent.
Let me live for justice,
and, if need be,
perish in her pursuit.
