  • A Mother's Goodbye

My baby, my baby, my child, my love.
I’ll hold you forever, forever, my dove.
And if Death takes you from me, from my gentle care,
I’ll still hold you forever, just know I’ll be there.
No matter the distance, I’ll claw my way through,
I’ll go searching forever, forever to you.
For you are my baby, you are my child,
And without you, just know, I’ll ne’er reconcile.
For without you, my dear one, my love and my life,
I can’t go on living, to dwell in this strife.
I’ll be better with you, wherever Death took you,
To live and to love like a mother made anew.
I’ll leave this world behind, in it’s filth and it’s rot
To live there with you, for here, I can not.

I watched my grandmother (85yo) go through this when her daughter (65yo) died. Only then did I realize that a parents love is eternal. My grandma told me then, "I can't even think about life without her".
I am now a parent of adult children. I understand!

Thank you for this painfully beautiful verse

I understand and agree with your grandmother. She must be an amazing woman.

Thank you Alexandra (and sorry for making you cry) But yes, a mother's love for her child is unstoppable, even by Death.

Very sad, very emotional. And your writing pulls it out. Well done, Darthvader.

I can hear the lamenting....my heart aches.

My baby, my baby, my child, my love.
I’ll hold you forever, forever, my dove.

Thank you Muttado and Suz-zen. My heart aches as well, but time always heals. Some wounds may take longer than others, but they all heal in the end.

I saw my cousin bury her first born, months after he came into the world.

Her sorrow was a window into the depth of anguish, I would rather not have peered through. I had rather there had been no scene to witness.

You have expressed that pain vividly.

If poetry is intended to emote, you have certainly, artfully done so!

There is something so very deep and strong between a mother and a child.
Hence, the expression 'I want my mommy'!
                  Well done, Darth!

Hah, thanks Henry. I can always count on you to create laughter in a place where none exists yet. Well done to you as well.

Thank you, lunar glide. I think the relationship between a mother and child can be the most strong of all. I just wish we realized that when the children are still breathing.
