    Equality is action

I fell in love with your beautiful words
Such passion inflamed about life and love
We soared through skies like a couple of birds
Dreaming of the day we could be proud of

I tried to guard my heart against your views
The blood on humanity's hands ignore
So ashamed and defeated, I withdrew
I closed my eyes in pain of this race war

This raging war that sees only color
Friend, what will you see when you look at me?
Will we fail, make each other feel smaller
Or could love transcend, bringing unity

The choice is ours to make and live life by
We have to do something, we have to try

A serious sonnet AtL, reflecting the times. Kudos!

Awesome Alexandra! Just saw the Free State of Jones and in some instances, not much has changed in the last 185 years. I have a new write myself I will be posting later. Love your poem and I highly recommend the movie.

Thank you Bobby. Can't wait to read yours. I'm so troubled by all these years Americans fighting for equality - our brothers and sisters - and nothing's changed. It makes me angry, sad and ashamed.

''We have to do something, we have to try'' Well said, AtL, all the way through!

The whole verse was on point and well presented
              These lines were especially powerful.

"This raging war that sees only color
Friend, what will you see when you look at me?"

I often wonder this as I go through my day.
