    Salad not steak when you’re a hungry carnivore
    Drinking house when cash won’t reach top shelf
    Solitaire in bed with movie on TV
    Energy is lost can’t play with friends who drain
    Spending time with one you love who buys you matching socks
    Wanting for a love to come to knock those socks right off;
    settle.

    At least you get to write about it. Our saving grace.

      was writing this from another's perspective today (many others really) after shopping on a FRI and observing what seemed to be a bunch of folks who seem to have settled... I am always watching . Got me to thinking of that word. settle... kept rolling it around.... i like to think i don't, but i do. So maybe from mine also. a mix. when i got home i jotted down thoughts that came to me and voila. I hear people give the advice ' don't settle' without knowing the whole story.
      it might not be as awful as it sounds. settle has a bad rep!

    This is lovely and adorable, Suz-zen! It makes me pine for all the lonely people who could and should be paired up, with our without matching socks!

    You know, what you wrote about settling didn't sound all that bad. Sock it to me!

      I agree...matching socks vs missing sock! you have captured the ying yang conflict in love of passion vs comfort. the disruptiveness of attraction or the higher calling of kindness and patience. I'm glad you shared this one

        it is something with which i am currently struggling more than i have cared to admit... like all poets we do find our own vulnerable self mirrored in our writing even if we think it veiled

      This is great, Suz-zen: musical, clever, and your use of the sock image is superb. There is so much insight in this poem. Zesta!
