  • Love in the Shadows: A Recollection

    Shadows on your ivory face
    In early evening
    I recall like a moon
Whose dark side is a revered mystery
    Eclipsed by
    A gentle meandering breeze
That slowly separates your exquisite auburn hair
    Strands that flutter
And billowing softly out I remember its scent
    When I was near

And you let my fingers carefully explore
    The contours
Of your gracious neck in its soft pillar
    Work to gird up
Your face whose countenance like a loon
    In flight against impending night
Reminds me of our brief moments together

    Scattered fragments of joy
I hoard and try to coalesce
In fear that like clouds they too will break apart
    Drift like wayward thoughts
Of what happened to our binary star
In close orbit to each other

    But now your silence
Like an interloper erodes my heart
    Whose chambers echo
    In your absence

What should I do lie down and weep
    Or find voice
    To celebrate this nothingness

This longing is touching and sad, Tanner. Nicely done! Welcome back RLW - you have been greatly missed. :-)

Thank you AtL - it is but a temporary reprieve. About another week and a half of sporadic attempts to connect and then, God willing, back for a good long time. I am already wondering how I'll ever catch up on so much wonderful writing!

To longingly reach for beauty but never capture it. A painful situation. Lovely longing, Tanner.

Tanner this poem touches me. beauty in each line. does the auburn hair woman know that you still write about her? she must have really been incredible to to have inspired such deep feelings and verse.

        i am particularly moved by:
