    Young and Pretty

    Young and pretty
    Down shadowed streets
    Of a cruel city
    Where strangers meet

    A knowing glance
    And forty bucks
    A quick romance
    In a pickup truck

    If she's done well
    She'll get some smack
    A spot in Hell
    With no way back

Indeed a poignant writing about an all to real topic. Well done maestro...

The spare lines are the ideal vehicle for this grim vignette, MHenry. I thought it was going to be four syllables in every line, but saw just one exception. Not that it matters; the rhyme and meter flow just right.

Hi, grant, I was thinking about the fourplay, even toying with threeplay, but I have decided to play fast and loose with syllables if it suits my purpose and flows properly. I grow weary of counting knuckles and changing words to fit a form.

As long as it works for the ear, I am all for breaking patterns. And this works for the ear.

Hi MHenry. Powerful and true.. In my former life, don't know if I told you, I was a cop in a northeast city. I worked some vice on occasion and always found it depressing. This poem made me think of a particular prostitute who wound up a murder victim.

This has to be one of the toughest beats for a cop! Especially, if they have young rebellious daughters of their own! Thanks for the look, John!

I enjoy how you deal with strong subjects so directly and you disarm me with wit. 😄

This is an alarming write... My 21 y/o daughter (17 at that time) shared a story
about a girl from her school who had a reputation like mentioned here.
Although a hearsay...I wondered if there was any truth in it.
    ...Thanks for sharing
