  • adore the night

Lay down in the shade of my dream
and rest from the heat of the sun,
the sun that melts sunflowers and burns wheat stalks in broad daylight and in sweet secret,
    in labor, and in gold.

Lay down with me under the moonrise,
and let silver bathe us instead.
The silver of the night is immensely older than finest
    gold.

Let us listen to the mournful rustling of the ancient olive trees.
Their fruit groans and sighs to lick color,
    olives are original caverns,
their oil is closer to our origins than morning's bluebells.

Dream with me breath to breath,
and let us drink from the spiget of the starless sky,
untill the night opens unending yellow eyes
    that jump from their cocoons,
untill our mouth becomes one mouth,
    our cavern of stars.

Beautiful ode to the night time lunar glide - 'jump from their jelly cocoons' - delightful!
