  • Tomorrow Will Be Better

    Tomorrow Will Be Better

    With barbed and lashing tongue
He left scars upon her heart
    Deep and painful fissures
    That ripped her world apart

    With knuckles harsh and bitter
He broke bones and shattered teeth
But still she would not leave him
For she held the firm belief

    Tomorrow will be better

And every day he hurt her
    She sang the same refrain
    Tomorrow will be better
Until she shot him in the brain

You are good at the zinger at the end MHenry! And although I'd like to express surprised relief - the subject matter is so truly serious that the question remains if tomorrow will be better - or only a different sort of terrible? Great verse though. You continue to deliver insightful work.

Hi, RLW, It is a sore subject, and one that many in this forum have poeticized about. I thought I would give my two cents.
I think the zinger at the end can save a work that is otherwise a little lacking! Thanks for reading and enjoying.

I may have to borrow this one for my book. Lol. I love the ending.

But seriously, this happens too often and abuse is NEVER ok. Most of the times, the abused are the ones that end up dead.

Great job on writing this MH.

I am not an advocate of guns at all, but I am an advocate of self-defense. I am angered when people hurt other people, no matter how they choose to do it. In poems, you can make sure the good guy wins. Thanks for reading and for your constant support

Thank you, imrogue. This is my way of showing support for the abused.

Well damn, she shot him in the brain. Abused to the limit, but now she must defend herself from the law.
So she still if not free of him.

Ditto! I witnessed this in real life. He abuse the woman so much they separated. He went just to talk. She shot and killed him. Just like that. Toxic relationships are no good for no one. Touchy subject. Thanks for sharing. P.s. But in the end no one really wins.

      Tomorrow will be better
      Today I'm still mourning
For now I'll write a letter
      Joy comes in the morning

Heartfelt write....reality is hard to accept especially with a situation like this, you've delivered a great poem that's a reality check for some of us, thanks for sharing MHenry
