  • A Complex Definition of Lies

    Yesteryear
    issues its refrain
    like the chain-ganged melody
    of a cow-belled necklace.
    Oh, how we are reckless
    with our maladies
    lying
    In search
    of introspective remedies.
    Standing at intersections
    of today and the past,
    will we make peace
    with these ghosts
    at last?
    Ours is a truth denied.
    A history revised...
    A complex definition
    of lies.

Wow, I love this poem. Standing at the intersections of today and the past. Very cool.

I agree, Brain. I am smitten with this elegantly phrased meditation on the past, and feel its admonishment. Marvellous, rhythmic interweaving of rhyme, assonance and consonance. Thank you for sharing this, Dwayne.

I've read several of your poems and they are thought-provoking and insightful not to mention the poetic styles you use. That last stanza about denying the truth but just rewriting history to make it look better is a sad state of affairs because we have to live with those lies instead of having the incentive to strive to be and do better.

Thought provoking. Thanks for sharing. Will we ever learn from our past mistakes and move forward?

So I went to hit 'like' and then realized that I'd already liked, so that made it un-like - which isn't true at all - because I like it very much - which I then corrected by hitting like again. Technology gets my goat sometimes! I don't know if it comes from human nature of not wanting to face it when we've done something wrong - afraid of consequences maybe? But it truly is reckless - and unkind - to live in denial. Great verse Dwayne.
