Alexandra, this is so beautiful. The only problem I have is it got lost in the queue girl. Let us all savor one at a time. I can't keep up with you. Great write!

You shouldn't feel bad because I'd like to think he was singing to me since after he'd throw himself at my window, he sang so beautifully and I got to enjoy that every morning for quite a while. Thank you for your comment.

Always lovely. Now I know why the cardinals peck at my window. I now feel less value. My 2 cats love the mirrored glass
and are within the thickness of the glass. I need to take a picture. I am not going to tell the cats. Oh, my male
now brings his fiancee with him. Cute couple.

Thank you MH. You are so insightful. Some of the most painful things in life are also the ones that make us appreciate the little things.

When you are able to poeticize your feelings so that others feel them, feel your pain, feel for you, then you have accomplished something beautiful and valuable. As always, AlexandratheLate, you have crafted a beautiful, heartfelt expression of emotion.

From one soulful poet to another I humbly thank you. As a fellow poet you know our poems are windows into our lives. This is a true story both about the cardinal and the man who was my husband. Thank you.

started a topic I was mistaken

    I was mistaken

Beautiful bright red cardinal singing his little heart out to me
Oh, If only I had wings to fly, the love of your life could be
Instead of you daily banging yourself against my glass window
Desperate for my attention, fever pitch frenzy to a diminuendo
Together we would soar through magnificently resplendent skies
Unrivaled view, every day with each other completely mesmerized

For weeks on end, each morning you came, capturing my attention
Banging against my window and singing in a state of contention
I thought this could be my chance at real love, find true romance
Your soulful song held me in rapt attention, and a hypnotic trance
But what I finally came to appreciate, and eventually would learn
This wasn’t love at all, nor were you there for me, my love to return

Like the beautiful red male cardinal throwing himself at my window
You were staking your territory, attracting a mate, leaving me behind in limbo
The reflection you saw in the glass, was competition and sworn enemy
I didn’t know that’s how you had always viewed me, so contemptuously
He disappeared after a while but I saw him on my fence once more
He had moved on, built a nest with his lady. I didn’t exist any more
