  • A Cabin in Maine

Give me a cabin in the state of Maine
just me, the trees and a journal.....
Where Moose roam free in marshy ponds
while thoughts of hope spring eternal....

In this cabin in the mountains in Maine
    I'll have everything I need......
Food and water a fireplace for warmth
A wall of good books to read......

A walk in the woods in the forest in Maine
    spruce trees and firs everywhere......
With quiet contemplation and time to reflect
Only myself and my friend Black Bear.......

The aroma of Pine, along with misty fog
    creates the yearning to write.....
So I load the fireplace with twigs and a log
and I settle in for the night......

No feelings of loneliness, stress or a care
I'm happy to be with just me......
Bundled in a blanket reclining in my chair
this writer feels happy and free......

Solitude and quiet seems so appealing
the cabin in Maine is waiting......
What other experiences will it be revealing?
One day there'll be no debating......

Similar dreams here, Bobby. Only, I picture myself up in a mountainside cabin someday... possibly up around Jasper, amidst the magnificent Alberta Rockies! I like this piece a lot, and I notice the rhythm is feeling smoother than a couple of earlier works I read of yours. Very nice!

One thing I do notice (which I'll point out) is that you use an end rhyme pattern of: ABCB in stanzas 1, 2 and 3; then switch to an ABAB pattern in stanzas 4, 5 and 6. It would give the overall work just a tad more polish if you could be consistent in the rhyme scheme throughout. However, it's interesting to note that you wrote in a more difficult pattern in the last three, than in the first three verses of the poem.

Overall, a solid poem! And, I'll give you an A+ for the topic... oh yes! I can here that fireplace crackling away right now!

Thank you for your insight Piper. She is my child, not perfectly beautiful, but still my child. Watch her grow right before your eyes. Her life is like verses in a poem.

The woods my job my home away from home. Oh how many I have roamed. From Wisconsin down to Tennessee, Virginia up to Maine. I once stayed overnight with a client in his cabin in southern Illinois made from white cedar logs hauled all the way from Wisconsin. You would have thought after all that expense he would of had an indoor toilet. Just a suggestion Bobby. A very enjoyable read as always.

Piper, here's something I came across this morning...... Peter Rabbit and Friends , by Beatrix Potter
Here are some Beatrix Potter quotes :
“There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you.”
“I hold that a strongly marked personality can influence descendants for generations.”
“Believe there is a great power silently working all things for good, behave yourself and never mind the rest.”
“Thank goodness I was never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some of the originality.”
“I cannot rest, I must draw, however poor the result, and when I have a bad time come over me it is a stronger desire than ever.”
“I hold an old-fashioned notion that a happy marriage is the crown of a woman’s life.”
“What heaven can be more real than to retain the spirit-world of childhood?”
“I am aware these little books don't last long even if they are a success.”
“If I have done anything, even a little, to help small children enjoy honest, simple pleasures, I have done a bit of good....

I had fun with this one and the conversation with the above. Although the scheme is non conventional I llike it more for that reason.

Glad this came back around Bobby because I missed it. Love the setting and the ambience and quiet love of nature. I stayed in the smokies in a cabin and a bear came to check us out while in the hot tub. Guess he wasn't hungry. Lol.

wonderful poem and quotes! I have a feeling a cabin in Maine would bring you a thousand times better poems than any writing school.
