    The Broken Hands of Time

A great king upon a mountain looked
    beyond his castle walls.
He saw distant lands of gold and silk
and sought to have them all.
So he sent his armies to attack
    and watched ten thousand fall
‘till the youngest prince stood next to him
    upon that fortress wall.

    He said,

    Father! Father! Look and see!

Within these walls your castle holds much treasure!

Can you see beyond the broken hands of time?
Every minute, every hour, ticking by.
Still you hold on to your greed until you die.
You’re not living life, you’re only wasting time.

Enraged, the king picked up his son
and threw him from the wall.
At once he felt such deep remorse
and cried to see him fall.
So he called his armies back from war
    and stood before them all.
And the mighty king took off his crown
and threw it from the wall.

    He cried,

Son! My son! Now look and see.

Within these walls my castle holds no treasure.

Can you see beyond the broken hands of time?
Every minute, every hour, ticking by.
Still you hold on to your greed until you die.
You’re not living life, you’re only wasting time.

We must see beyond the broken hands of time.
Every minute, every hour, ticking by.
Still we hold on to these memories ‘till we die.
That’s not living life, we’re only wasting time.

Please note - This is the lyrics of a song I wrote and recorded (not a professional recording, just me having fun) I tried to attach a file of the song, but am having difficulty (maybe I'll get one of my kids to help...) anyway, I don't think the link is correct, so don't bother trying it!

*NOTE: With help from my brilliant son, the first link now works! (i.e. the one with the Cxq1Ar ending.) I can't delete the other one, so please just disregard. Thanks!

Hello Piper! I couldn't get the audio to work either, so followed your name to you main page on Chirbit and it works there! I so thoroughly enjoyed listening. Love the folksy sound of your voice (my kinda music) and loved the insight wisdom woven into your lyrics. Thank you so much for sharing.

            Sharonlee,

Thank YOU so much for reviewing! And, for taking the time to follow the link to where you could actually hear the audio... Darn—I thought I had the glitches worked out on that link!
