  • Tested 2 most common and free Mac tools and compared which one is better

I noticed on various forums most users recommend lots of tools and it seems the choice is so wide and varied. But TBH if I were a beginner, I'd really get confused. Moreover, when you are looking for an honest review, you are likely to face hide native advertising. It should also be mentioned not everyone can afford a paid version, no matter how good the product is. That's why I decided to write post/article about free file manager in 2023 for a Mac enthusiast (Marta vs Commander One).

Let's start with most common. Commander One is a godsend for many. It's very similar to Marta in terms of features, but there are a couple of nuances. Commander is often described as Finder replacement. There is no reason whatsoever to reinvent which is already working for the people, and that is the major basic of what the Finder actually works, i.e. it provides a view and details of Mac’s file system that provides the user to easily manipulate the files in the system.

    Main features:
    • Keyboard Shortcuts (A big feature of Commander One is assignable hotkeys)
    • Themes (Commander has various themes available. One thing I noticed is that they closely follow the macOS terminal themes)
    • Dual Panel
    • Flaws/Feature Requests
It has the ability to view all the files which include binary as well as hex data, without any requirement of opening the files. It is quite similar to the Quick Look option of the OS X, but the major feature of Commander One is that it supports additional types of files.
Commander actually has both free and pro version that gets you an FTP client, integration with cloud services such as Google Drive and OneDrive.

Now let's move on to the second one. Marta is a great choice for anyone looking for a fast, native, and customizable file management tool for macOS. Whether you are a pro or just looking for a simple way to manage your files, Marta file manager has something to offer.
Marta is compatible with any keyboard or mouse. All hotkeys can be customized. Marta does not sell or collect your data. There is no hidden functionality or backdoors, and there will never be. You can use archives the same way you work with folders on your Mac. Marta can open and write ZIP archives. It can also open RAR, 7Z and TAR, ISO and CAB formats, as well as LZH and many other formats. You can even view and edit files within nested archives. Marta comes with five professionally designed themes. There are five themes to choose from, regardless of whether you prefer dark backgrounds or light ones.

    Main features:
    • Highly customizable interface
    • Extensible with support for plugins
    • Action Panel
    • Quick Search
    • Task Queue
    • Disk usage
    • Show hidden files
    • Built-in terminal
    • Themes
    • Plugins API

    Conclusion.
Both tools are worthy of attention, free dual-pane file managers, designed specifically for macOS and recommended my many experienced Mac users. I personally use both, but still prefer the Commander. I can't describe here all the features of this tool so you can check out another commander one review to learn more about it.
I'm curious what tool you'd choose for yourself and recommend? Write a comment if you've faced any problems while using Marta or Commander or if you completely disagree with my review.
