Steady rain has the garden growing by leaps and bounds...and the roads a sloppy mess!

My husband said he saw a coyote in our driveway yesterday morning...heading past the house. That's new. Cats were OK last night and today. Phew!

The older two grandsons are through with school so will be staying with us a couple of weeks. Lots of projects on the drawing board. It's going to be fun! I haven't cooked for teenage boys in awhile...should be interesting.

Hopefully you get to hang out with them, but so fun to know your kid will have a little cousin friend.

We've had a lot of drama with my MIL over the last year and a half, even before the pandemic. Started out with Christmas 2019 when she threw a huge fit about my husband and I not going over to her house on Christmas day (husband had just gotten his CDL and we didn't know if he'd be out on the road or not, so we decided not to go anywhere). Then after our daughter was born, she threw a huge fit AGAIN because we didn't put baby girl in the "first Christmas" outfit she bought, took it to Facebook, then threatened grandparents' rights over it (not that she'd have a single leg to stand on). And then she also had charges brought against her for assaulting my oldest niece and has lost guardianship of my youngest niece because she was physically abusing her.

It's a whole mess. I really want to reach out to my nieces so they can have a relationship with my daughter, but it's hard figuring out how to do that, since one of them still lives with my MIL, and I don't want my MIL anywhere near my daughter right now.

So sorry to hear that, Emmy...my husband and I have found being grandparents to be a great blessing in our lives...but parental preferences come first in my view. We love it because we get to be more relaxed and do fun stuff with our grandkids, but I know not everyone thinks that way.

It is sad that there may never be a chance for a relationship between your daughter and her grandma either, based on the grandma's choices/actions...though as toxic as it sounds now your choice to protect your daughter is spot on.

One thing is that as your nieces get older they can make their own decisions...despite missed opportunities now. It's good that you're remaining open to that. Sounds like you're being strong.

I can offer prayers for change of heart on your MIL's part, and healing to follow.

Warmer days are coming in our little corner of the globe. Garden growing nicely...weeds keeping pace.

We're enjoying a visit from the grandchildren. They're helping put in some more lavender plants. The youngest is finishing school online. Life is good.
