  • I've been busy. Decided to pick up a 2nd job at Ross. I'm taking advantage of these shorthanded places because they are fine scheduling me short shift only a couple of times a week so it doesn't interfere with my actual job/business.

I like that I am learning the area a lot more since I decided on taking a job at the ross further from me. I also get a great discount, and a bigger discount in Oct. So I can fill my house up with shelves and go shopping for some new clothes. I'm thinking I only want to do this for a few months though, because it is exhausting... Especially when my husband is gone for work. I get home, make any calls I need to make for my business, then run around caring for animals. I'm keeping the garden watered, but I've about given up on it lol

    • Some of the younger girls at Ross are interesting. Their immediate attitude toward being reminded about dress code or being told what to clean up is bizarre. Although I caught myself having a different issue of wanting to explain to the manager Why I had not done a certain thing, when really I just need to do it LOL Working alone and being my own boss for several years has definitely made me a tad difficult to manage, but I'm working on it. I've been telling them if they tell me once, they don't need to remind me because I'm on it, but if I'm not addressing something its because they haven't trained me. I should just stay quiet

            • Booked family photos for the first weekend of October, and doing some first birthday photos for my daughter! I can't believe she'll be one in a little over a month

                • I've been tired for the last few days. I tried to see if I really needed my morning B vitamins and shake. It turns out I am much less productive without them so yes. I need to start the day with vitamins and a filling protein shake. I won't go without that again. Who knew my mom was right :P

                  • So my garden was a total bust. Just basil was harvested. My bellpepper appear to be doing something, but I think it should be like dying soon right? Back to google...

                    • My chickens however are huge and healthy at 6 1/2 weeks old. It's fun seeing them march into the coop when the sun is setting.

                      • It was 47 degrees this morning--perfect for the first day of fall. Bring on the sweater weather!

                        • Yes! I am super excited for cold weather.
It's just lovely, crispy, and overcast out. My favorite.

                          • I've been clearing out plants in our garden too. We have a few potato plants left to dig up, some pumpkins are still coloring up so will stay on the vine, and the remaining zucchini plant still has blossoms, but has slowed a bit in production. My bell pepper plants finally started setting fruit in late August, so we harvested some (on the smaller side), but I doubt there is enough warm weather to see the current tiny fruits to maturity. I'll wait awhile longer until I pull them. I have one cucumber plant left too...with two tiny fruit so am hoping they might mature enough to pick. Our weather is supposed to warm up for a couple of days this weekend, so we'll see. The last thing to be harvested is the horseradish (first year attempting and it grew well) because we've read that you wait until after the first hard frost for that.

This year was a good year produce-wise...probably the best we've had yet. Still, we're looking forward to cleaning out the beds, adding some new dirt and amendments and buttoning everything up for winter.
