Spiral wound gasket is special semi-metallic gaskets of great resilience. Therefore they are very suitable for applications featuring heavy operating conditions. Spiral wound gaskets are manufactured by spirally winding a V-shaped metal strip and a strip of non-metallic filler material.

The metal strip holds the filler providing the gasket with mechanical resistance and resilience. Spiral wound gasket can be reinforced by an outer centering ring And /or inner retaining ring. the outer centering ring controls the compression And holds the gasket centrally within the bold circle. The inner centering ring increases the Axial rigidity and resilience of the gasket. Spiral wound gasket should always be in contact with Flange and should not protrude into the pipe or project from the flanges.

The world is like a ride at an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it, you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly colored and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, 'Hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride...' And we ... kill those people.

I'm about to do a teardown on the 2000 suburban and want to purchase a gasket set. Are there recommendations on what manufacturers are better that others? I see quite a few felpros out there.

I always use the elring, if you really want to stick them down, use wellseal jointing compound on them as well. It's compatible with head gaskets, as well as all others, especially on alloy engines

I;ve rebuilt dozens of engines over the past 30 years. I only use Elring gaskets on any rebuild. I have never had a single failure of any of their products, never had a mispackage and never had anything faulty upon delivery. I;ve only used Elring because it was what my father used on the racing circuit and what my grandfather used in his hobby shop and dealerships for decades. I guess a company being around for 120+ years with quality products and incredible market penetration world wide says alot. :thumb:

Posting this as an FYI. I used to own an auto parts store in the late 80's and sold among others, Beck Arnley parts. They are not a manufacturer, they simply repackage and sell parts for the non US made cars, under their own brand. So the gasket set as an example might have Felpro one day, and Victor Reinz the next for the same part number, whatever they bought cheaper that day.
