RLW, what is an editorial calendar????
On a personal level, it's a great way to plan out blog topics. I want to start a web site to market some rhyming scavenger hunts (and maybe other things if I get around to starting/finishing them), and part of it will be a blog. A lot of people will start a blog with all great intentions, and then run out of things to say, and then not post regularly, and then lose followers. The theory is that if you preplan most of your ideas, and prewrite (or at least draft) the articles, you are less likely to run into that problem. I had a one-to-one session with one of the presenters, and he has a blog, and he said it's a great idea and he uses one and it's helped a lot. Here's a basic article on it for personal blogs or other social media - they are one of the main ways to promote your work like that novel you are writing (again, I'm not promoting this site or any other, it's just the first one that came up).
So, since I hope to go live with my web site in mid-September, I'm looking at posting blogs and hunts that will have appeal in October/November - and so on. I'm trying to get a weekly schedule done until the end of the year. That way, if I'm ahead on blog ideas, and run into some snag where I can't write as regularly as planned, I'll have something in reserve.
That's how I understand it anyway.
